Birth is an intimate experience. In a homebirth, this sacred experience is fully realized and respected. Before labor even begins, you will notice there is a drastic difference in prenatal care. Prenatals with my clients are at least an hour long and include not just physical assessments, but emotional support as well. During the course of your pregnancy, we will discuss your hopes and your fears so that when labor begins, you will be confident and relaxed. Prenatals take place in the comfort of your own home and are scheduled around your schedules and mine. The intimate connection between you and your partner is always respected. I understand that this is not just a birth, this is the beginning of a family! During labor you will be free to move about your home and do whatever feels right to you, trusting your own instinct. You can birth in an inflatable birthing tub that is provided and in any position that you wish. You and your birth partner may wish to receive your baby as he or she emerges. There is nothing more empowering than birthing your baby into your own hands! I think of myself like a lifeguard, ready to jump in and help if  needed but happy to stay on the sidelines if I am not. After birth, your baby remains with you at all times and exams are delayed while you bond and breastfeed. A complete newborn exam will be done in your own bed with your participation.
