Peggy's Story
Hi!
I am a Certified Childbirth Educator, owner of "Peace For Babies" on the Web and Etsy, trained Doula by DONA (Doula's of North America), and the Leader of ICAN of Albuquerque (International Cesarean Awareness Network, http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/ICAN-of-Albuquerque/306956929317449). Im also an artist/designer and love creating items that will help Mother's and Babies feel cherished, honored, & comforted. Click under 'Cherished Pregnancy' to see some examples =)
However, above all else, first and foremost....I am a Mother.
When I became pregnant with my first son in 2006, I fell in love with all things pregnancy and baby related. I had recently graduated college with a BA in Landscape Architecture and worked in the field for some time. However, when I experienced birth and became a mother, I knew my career path in life would soon change!
My husband and I tried to prepare ourselves for birth and parenthood, but had a poor start with a hospital birth. It was not the place we needed to be for a peaceful, healthy, and happy outcome for us. My sweet baby and I ended up with a long and difficult labor full of worry, fear, lack of control, and interventions. It eventually resulted in a c-section.
Afterwards, we faced many hardships dealing with recovery and transition into our new life. Though I had never faced more difficult times, I look back on them with much pride and happiness. They served to deepen my interest in pregnancy, babies, and birth even more. Words cannot express the great understanding and love I gained for everything related. It awakened an overwhelming desire to help families develop the confidence, knowledge, and tools needed so they could have a joyful, life-changing birth and parenting experience.
It wasn’t long after when I earned certification as a childbirth educator and began teaching at a local hospital. I cherish the years I taught there and it was a great place to start my career. However, never where I intended to stay. After the birth of my second son, which was a beautiful and triumphant Waterbirth at Home (for a grand 9.5 lb baby!...2 whole pounds bigger than my first whom I recieved surgery for), I knew I was forever committed to empowering families in having the same type of experience.
I am passionately comitted to Ecstatic Birth and Baby! I am also passionately committed to helping families with out-of-hospital birth. However, I sincerely understand why many are not comfortable or do not have this option in our society. I have been there myself. A big part of my job not only educating families on their options, but fighting for change to help those have more family-centered, respected, and peaceful hospital experience.
My dream is that a Mother has the confidence in her body and baby to choose where her birth occurs based on what she truly needs & desires, fully informed....with no formidable fear involved. And- the support to do so.
It is also my dream that a Mother and her Baby can have a peaceful and ecstatic birth wherever it occurs....whether it be at Home, in a Birth Center, or Hospital. I stand strongly to support Gentle Birth, Care, and treatment for Mother's, Babies, and Families!
Please join me as we help prepare you for Your Ecstatic Birth and Baby! I will be looking forward to meeting you soon!
